energy

Today I thought I would share with you 5 simple but effective ways to get more energy. Having more energy is something I am hugely passionate about. The reasons being, more energy will give you the ‘get up and go’ for those workouts, it will give you that much needed spark of enthusiasm when you come home to your family after a long day in the office and it will give you the oomph to take on life.

Your energy truly is one of your most valuable assets in life. We have all felt how low you can feel if you don’t have enough energy, doing the simplest of things becomes a huge chore and all you want to do is lie on the sofa and watch crap TV.

Here are some simple ways to dramatically increase your energy

1. Get more sleep

Sleep is our bodies hormonal reset. Essentially our bodies run on a 24 hour hormonal pattern, which is co-ordinated with the rising and setting of the sun. Cortisol, the hormone responsible for energy should be highest in the morning when the sun is rising and lowest in the evening when the sun is setting. However for many, excessive evening blue light stimulus from computers, Ipads and TV’s increase evening cortisol disrupting sleep quality and dysregulating natural hormonal patterning. According to Paul Chek, an authority on health and wellbeing, our bodies go through physical repair between the hours of 10pm and 2am, meaning that if you skimp on those vital first few hours of sleep your cells will fail to rejuvenate leaving you more tired and weak.

2 – Destroy your deficiencies

Did you know that any kind of vitamin deficiency can suck the energy from you leaving you feeling tired and exhausted. Lack of iron, B-vitamins or vitamin D tend to be big culprits here. Personally I don’t take any chances and thats why I supplement with BePure One. BePure One a multi-vitamin created by clinical nutritionist Ben Warren was developed after specifically looking at deficiencies in both New Zealand diets and soils. The BePure One multivitamin has a spectrum of vitamins and minerals in not just recommended daily allowances but optimal levels to ensure your nutrition and energy levels are at their peak

3 – Don’t eat excessive amounts of sugary carbohydrates

Eating an excessive amount of carbohydrates or even the wrong kind of carbs will lead to what I call the ‘spike – crash – crave’ cycle. After eating sugary carbohydrates your blood sugar levels will rise (spike). In response to this your body releaseS insulin into the bloodstream (Insulin moves blood sugar into the body’s cells for energy. Excess blood sugar can be stored in the form of glycogen in both the liver and muscles. Insulin also plays a role in fat storage.) The metabolic response causes blood sugar levels to fall (crash). The blood sugar crash leaves you feeling tired and fatigued. Your body will then crave any kind of sugary food in order to get some energy back. And there we have the beginning of a viscous cycle that will leave your tired, hungry irritable and fat.

4 – Drink more water

Your body is made up of around 60-70% water. Fatigue is the number one symptom of a toxic system and the fastest way to eliminate toxins is to flush them out. Water also aids in blood circulation, digestion and the carrying of nutrients to the cells. If any of these systems are not operating effectively then your body will slow down and become sluggish.

So there you have it, my top 4 ways to increase energy levels. Give these a go over the next week and watch how your energy levels rise.
