Happy Monday
As I sit down to write this newsletter the weather forecast says rain but outside I see sunshine 🙂
On Saturday morning Krystie, Milly and I took a hike up the peak. It was the first time Milly stayed in the backpack the whole way and so we made it to the top. Every other time we have headed up the peak Milly decides she is going to walk and suffice to say we don’t make it very far 🙂
Also it was great to see a good handful of Fit-campers heading up the peak on Saturday morning. Give yourself a pat on the back. Getting out in nature, heading up the hill is a great way to start the weekend
In today’s newsletter I wanted to introduce you to our latest recruit Tom. It’s actually Tom’s birthday today! (That’s yesterday for those reading this). If you see him be sure to wish him a happy birthday. And if you want to give him birthday burpee’s that’s fine with me.
Here is a little interview I conducted in the car with him on Sunday…
Tom French
What is your favourite kind of workout?
Tom – I like anything that tests both mobility, stability and strength. Overhead squats, sumo deadlifts and snatches are some of my go-to exercises. My training is focused around functional athleticism.
Who are your hero’s?
Tom – I am a fan of the American powerlifter Mark Bell. Not only is he super strong but he is also an influential figure in the field of strength.
(For those that don’t know Mark has a 465 kg squat, a 377 kg bench press and a 335 kg deadlift. That’s massive)
I also admire Joe Rogan’s work. I listen to a lot of his podcasts during my studies. Joe is a black belt in Taekwondo, a comedian and a podcaster. He has interviewed some of the most influential people of our time
Who are your villains?
Tom – Businesses that make money off encouraging bad habits. Eg. medication that is prescribed that doesn’t work or people don’t need. Fast food companies and cigarette companies.
Breakfast of champions?
Tom – An omelet with eggs, salmon, broccoli, spinach, kale and black beans. That was my birthday breakfast this morning
Ultimate stress buster?
Tom – A high intensity workout. The kind of workout when the only thing you can focus on is the workout itself. All other stresses disappear because you’re 100% present with the workout. Also a good stretch after the workout too helps relax the mind and body.
Theme tune?
Tom – Pendulum – The sounds of life. I am currently listening to some drum and bass and rap
Essential snack?
Tom – Greek yoghurt with almonds, blueberries and a banana
Quote to live by?
Tom – ”Strength is never a weakness”
Top restaurant?
Tom – I would have to say my Mum’s home kitchen. Nothing beats home cooking
Desert Island item?
Tom – A water filter and bucket (Tom is quite clearly a practical man – PM)
The Results Fitness way in three words?
Tom – Holistic, passionate & inspirational (and I didn’t even tell him to say that 😉
What’s the bravest thing you have done?
Tom – Left school early to follow a dream in health and fitness
How do you stay on track when you travel?
Tom – I have recently returned from a 4 week trip to Canada. I knew I wouldn’t be in the gym so I got outdoors, hiked hills and did bodyweight workouts using picnic tables. I used the environment as my gym
What’s your greatest achievement?
Tom – My diploma in Sport and Rec
Favourite cheat meal?
Tom – Homemade pizza and Cadbury’s Coconut chocolate. I can eat a whole big bar in one sitting
= Â A happy man
Thanks for the interview Tom
