Hope you all had a great weekend. What a stunner Sunday we had, weather wise. So lovely standing facing the sunshine with your eyes closed, feeling the warmth on your skin.
Remember the Rubik’s cube?
Invented in 1974 by Erno Rubik. Erno a fellow Hungarian and Architect wanted to create a model to explain three dimensional geometry. The Rubik’s cube originally called the “Magic cube’’ was his creation. The Rubiks cube didn’t actually start gaining any traction until the 1980s but when it did, it really took off. To date 350 million cubes have been sold.
Did you know there are 43 quintillion possible configurations of the Cube?
That’s 430,000,000,000,000,000,000 (I didn’t even know that was a number)
The current record held for the fastest solve of the Rubik’s Cube is currently 3.47 seconds by Yusheng Du a young Chinese boy

Anyway, you’re probably wondering what this has to do with Fitness?
Well, one year ago if you asked me to complete the Rubiks cube I would have aimlessly turned and spun the blocks in the hope of getting a side of colours matched. Occasionally and by complete chance I might have been able to get one side matched.
I think a lot of people feel the same about their fitness goals. They try this new fad diet or follow this instagram influencers training program or do what Oprah, Dr Oz, or Dr Phil says. They essentially keep spinning the blocks hoping something will work. Sometimes they may lose a few kilos (get a few colours matched) but more often than not, the weight creeps back on and they are left with the grand mystery that remains.
For me it wasn’t until I learned the algorithm of the Rubik’s cube that I got it. The first time I think it took me well over an hour to complete. As time went on and I continued to practise I was able to crack the 3 minute mark. Yes there is a 3 year old that can solve in 1:39 seconds but I am okay with my 3 minutes 🙂 Anyway I digress, the point I am making is once you learn the algorithm (understand the principals) you will learn the formula for eating well, with real food. No gimmicks, tricks or shortcuts that will get you nowhere fast. Once you learn the algorithm then you know the right exercises for you and your body.
In a nutshell, the right algorithm or understanding the principles will not only get you the results but you will have them for life.
