Bone broth making can be traced back to the prehistoric era where the uneatable parts of animals were prepared into a broth drink. The drink was a common part of the prehistoric diet. Broth drinking is an ancient tradition that dates back to 1000 AD.

It is said that 2500 years ago broth was being used in Chinese medicine to preserve jing – “the reservoir from which we draw energetic sustenance during our entire lives”

North American civilisations commonly consumed broth as one of their main sources of good nutrition. They called it bone butter

The Jewish used it for the flu and it became what they call Jewish Penicillin

In the 12th century chicken soup was used to fight off colds and asthma in Egypt

The Greeks, the French, the Germans, the Scots and many others have all been known to use Bone Broth in some form or another to keep them strong and healthy

I don’t believe there is another food on the planet that has the medicinal and healing effects as broth does. Broth truly is the elixir of life

So, what’s the deal with this brothy elixir?

Here is why broth is known as nature’s multivitamin

  • It’s packed with over 19 amino acids (protein building blocks)
  • Has collagen/gelatin to heal and maintain our connective tissues
  • It has nutrients to support digestion, immunity and brain function
  • Is high in minerals and good chemical compounds

It literally nourishes everything from your muscles, joints and ligaments to your gut and brain.

One of the magical ingredients in broth is collagen and collagen does wonderful things for our guts. Collagen helps heal and soothe the gut lining, reduce leakage and prevent inflammation. Our gut hosts  80% of our immune cells. Having a healthy gut is what keeps us fighting off colds and flu’s.

Collagen is cool

Here are some other cool things that collagen has been shown to do…

  1. Relieve allergies, asthma and food sensitivities
  2. Reduce the appearance of wrinkles – I look pretty good for 62
  3. Promote good gut bacteria
  4. Help with IBS, Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis
  5. Prevent joint pain and bone loss
