Happy Monday Everyone.
A big congratulations to all who completed the marathon, 1/2 or 10k on Saturday morning. An awesome effort.
We are very excited to announce Emilie has given birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy, Beau. A pic to come when Mumma gets a chance :). Congratulations Em!
Recipe:
We thought we would bring you an easy recipe, Elderberry Tea, a great syrup to have in your fridge for any Winter colds/flus.
Elderberries are known for their antioxidant, antiviral, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating, as well as antidepressant properties.
Many symptoms of the cold and flu can be eased and treated with this powerful little berry. Consuming elderberries has a beneficial effect on severity and duration of cold and flu like symptoms
Elderberries also contain a variety of nutrients including Vit A, C, E and trace minerals such as copper, zinc, iron, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
Make sure you buy organic or spray free to get all the maximum benefits.
What you need:
- 1 cup dried elderberries
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1-2 cinnamon sticks (broken up)
- 1- inch nob fresh ginger
- 2 – 4 large tablespoons of raw and local honey
How to:
- Put first 4 ingredients in a pot and soak overnight to soften elderberries.
- Bring water to boil then bring to a simmer for 20 minutes with a lid on.
- Leave to cool to a warm temperature
- Strain liquid into a glass jar. Make sure to press the berries through the strainer firmly to extract any remaining liquid.
- Stir in honey until completely dissolved (you don’t want the liquid too hot to remove the goodies from the honey)
- Store in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator for up to four months.
- Take as a preventative or when you are feeling a cold come on. 1 t – 1 T at a time.
Have a go and let us know how you get on
