Elaine’s Journey to Strength: An Inspiration at Any Age

When Elaine first walked into the studio in her early 60s, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Like many people her age, she had some doubts about starting a structured fitness program. But Elaine had a vision: to feel stronger, healthier, and more confident in her body. Today, she’s not only achieved that but has become a true inspiration for everyone around her.

The Starting Point

Elaine wasn’t new to staying active, she had previously completed eight half marathons and two full marathons, but she hadn’t focused much on strength training before. Elaine had been given some numbers that showed her bones were on the decline and osteoporosis was looming. She was ready for a change—she wanted to feel capable, independent, and full of energy to enjoy life to the fullest. What stood out about Elaine from the start was her determination.

She came in with an open mind and a willingness to try new things, even when they seemed daunting. From weights to balance work, she embraced it all with a can-do attitude.

The Training Journey

We started Elaine on a program that focused on functional fitness—exercises designed to make everyday activities easier and more enjoyable. Her workouts included:

Strength training to build muscle and improve overall fitness. The heart of our work together has been driven around gaining strength with deadlift, squat, press’s, lunges and pulls. Elaine deadlifts more than her own bodyweight with ease

Balance and stability exercises to enhance coordination and reduce the risk of falls. It wasn’t uncommon for me to program ‘hanging upside down’ from the rig. Think of a child hanging upside down from some monkey bars.

Just monkeying around

Core work to support posture and back health.

Cardio to boost endurance and keep her heart healthy.

What made Elaine stand out wasn’t just her consistency but her willingness to push herself, even when things felt challenging. Elaine definitely had some fears about falling and I would often challenge her with balance exercises that required not only great proprioception but also a fair amount of courage

Week after week, she came in with a smile and a determination to do better than the last session.

The Results

The progress Elaine has made is nothing short of remarkable. She’s stronger than ever, lifting weights with ease and mastering exercises she once found intimidating. Her posture has improved, her energy levels are higher, and she’s more confident in her abilities than ever before. And as for those osteoporosis numbers.. Well, they’re back in check

But the results go beyond the physical. Elaine’s workouts have given her a sense of empowerment that radiates into every area of her life. She’s more active, more engaged, and approaches challenges with a renewed sense of strength and resilience.
