Social Media …. The reason why you’re failing !!
When I started Personal Training and coaching way back, 20 plus years ago, the only super strong people were the ones you watched every Christmas on the TV show ‘’world’s strongest man.’’ The only models you saw were the ones on the catwalk. The levels of exposure of these beautiful people or strong and jacked humans were minimal. Compare that with today and you can’t go seconds without seeing these ‘super-human’ people on social media.
Thanks to social media, the comparison is constant. It’s no longer about what you see in the mirror or the improvements you feel in yourself. Instead, it’s about measuring yourself against endless highlight reels of people who look like professionals.
Every time you open your phone, you’re bombarded with:
- Perfectly sculpted bodies
- Professional-level athletic feats
- Impossibly curated meals and workouts
Whether you are aware or not, you’re being trained and manipulated to believe that ‘everyone’ is ripped, has a tight, flat stomach, wins modelling competitions, is a champion Hyrox athlete, can walk on their hands and can lift incredible weights straight out of bed each day.
Algorithms promote extremes because it glues your eyes to the screen and/or causes arguments
– anything to keep you on your phone right ?
Here’s the problem…
You start believing that to be fit, you need to train like an Olympian, eat like a nutritionist, meditate in ice baths, and hit some mythical perfection every day. And if you can’t do that, what’s the point, right?
Back in the day, it was simpler. People started with what they could manage, took it step-by-step, and saw results. Now, too many people feel paralysed by self-doubt before they even begin, constantly judging themselves against filtered and edited content.
