Happy Monday!
Hope you are all well rested and getting plenty of vitamin D from the sunshine, plenty of movement (walking, bike riding, gardening…) and cooking nourishing meals over Lockdown. Now is the time to take charge of your own health.
On to today’s post… Worse than Sugar.
The other day I was thinking back to some of the foods I used to eat back in the day. I remember as long as it had protein and was low-fat I was good. Egg white omelette anyone?
What was I thinking!
I think that many of us were brainwashed by the low fat craze back in the 80s and early 90s thinking that eating a fried egg or a piece of bacon was going to result in a heart attack that evening when we went to bed.
Oh how things have changed
Most of you will know I am a huge fan of eating fats BUT there is one kind of fat that I would never eat.
This fat is everywhere and it can be tricky to avoid but if you want to do yourself and your health a favour then I would avoid it at all costs.
I believe this fat to be so bad that when I go to a restaurant I will actively ask them to not put it in my food.
A client recently asked me if I thought it was more damaging than sugar. My answer ‘’hell yes’’ it might just be worse than smoking
Can you guess what I’m talking about ?
Toxic vegetable oils
These guys are often referred to as the “good” fats because they come from plants
This couldn’t be further from the truth
BUT it goes much further than this
These oils are processed with chemical solvents most notably the neurotoxin hexane which is a byproduct of petrol production. The residues of hexane can remain in the oil for everyone to enjoy
The oil is then mixed with metal particles and treated with hydrogen gas. Emulsifiers are then added to the mixture, then it’s time for some bleaching and steam cleaning to remove any dodgy odours.
The final step is to add some artificial dyes and flavourings for colour and taste.
What is left is a chemical shit storm
BUT wait there’s more …
Vegetable oils are already rancid before you even open the bottle.
Processed oils are extracted by high pressure and very high heat. They will often be exposed to light and air which will oxidize the fat and turn it rancid exposing you to dangerous free radicals
I’m not done yet
Vegetable oils are sky high in omega 6. While we humans do need some omega 6 our modern day diets give us WAY TOO MUCH. It is reported that the number is about 20x more than required. Too much omega 6 increases the risk of inflammation, cancer, autoimmune disease and cardiovascular disease and more.
These vegetables oils that we are often told to eat are SO toxic to our bodies due to their processing and omega 6 content
PLUS.. Your body has no choice but to store these toxic vegetable oils as fat
What can you do
The first step to eliminate these toxic vegetable oils is to remove them from your diet. BUT they’re everywhere
Chips, salad dressing, mayonnaise, cookies, you name it… it’s probably got vegetable oil in it.
Which vegetable oils do you need to eliminate …
It’s not just canola oil
- Corn oil
- Soybean oil
- Sunflower oil
- Safflower oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Rice bran oil
The next step is to counter the inflammation and omega 6 imbalance
Your body wants a 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6…
Now days many of us have closer to a 30:1 ratio which is a real problem
This is why taking a potent, proven Omega 3 will do wonders in restoring the balance, helping with both your health and shedding some toxic fat
My personal favourite is Omegavail by Designs for Health
It has a whopping 660mg of EPA and 420mg of DHA
I think a high quality fish oil is one supplement that we could all do with taking on a daily basis.
If you would like a bottle then give me an email and I will grab you one on my next order
Yours in Health
Paul “somethings a bit fishy” and Krystie “would you like chips with that?” Miller
Ps – These taste great. My kids love it and think its their daily treat
